NLA Architecture

Hello and welcome to our first November Blog.

It is not often we get asked to do a hog roast actually in the busy streets. Anyway this was one of those days. We set up in a crescent just off a Goodge Street outside The NLA. There was a rather magnificent creation out of sand bags with a huge concave piece of suspended Perspex about twelve to fifteen feet across enabling you to have a magnified view of the sky and stars. The sand bags in Hessian sacks made up the seating. Sadly it rained in the morning so it all became a bit wet to sit on. It was amusing to watch guests learning by the experience, with slightly wet behinds!!

The whole event was for 500 guests which we did from several serving points. Great event and hopefully we’ll be back again having now done it for several years. Chelsea was the setting for a mid-week Jubilee street party. This was rather unusual in that I set up in the road with traffic gently passing. It was perhaps more bizarre for drivers wondering if they could have a pork bap for lunch!! However after a little while the street was shut off with residents taking charge and setting up tables , chairs bars and numerous stalls selling wonderful cakes and savouries. I have never felt more welcome by a community that had only known me for a couple of hours. I suppose the most gratifying part was a big hint that we would be recommended for next year’s event.  So ever hopeful that we will be back.

We also managed to cater another  year at a junior School, although sadly the weather was not so kind. We aimed to cater for about 700 as in previous years. Sadly there was no cricket match and probably less than 500 were catered for. It was probably a good attendance, since the event was very nearly called off due to the weather.

We did a wedding in Fernham. It was one occasion when I was very glad that we turned up early . We unloaded and started preparing food and then setting up the tables in the marquee. Next was to move the van. We only had to go a few yards but due to the wet weather it proved a little more tricky than expected. After several attempts and a tow from a neighbour all was  well, Fortunately all the rest of the team just carried on regardless. All went well with praises all round. Another brilliant day after a minor hiccup.

Many times I have driven past General Foods in Fernham, and now with the thanks of Sodexo we had a double machine hire. It was a great relief to have an early start so that I could run through the workings of the machine and ensure that all went well. I arrived at just after 5 in the morning and left half an hour later having enjoyed a freshly made coffee.

A great year so far for Fernham catering.
