I’ve lost track of the number of years that we have done this event. The first year it was at the home of the MD, Peter Young, who lives just round the corner off Kensington Church Street. The event itself was in the bosses garden. We did just over 100. It was a great little event, but has now grown to nearly 190 . They are all employees of John D Wood. The event is just a lovely mid-Summer get together that brings in everyone from the London offices.
We started our day at 9.30 which allows plenty of time for a set up at midday. The rout is simple enough, and the free parking at the venue is perfect, when you consider that this is in the middle of Kensington.
We unloaded and set up much as we have done in previous years. I guess if it ain’t broke then there is no need to fix it. This year they had lamb and pork and so we set up two stations and a separate salad area.
In the past there has been a slight unwillingness for people to start eating. This year it was nothing of the sort with everyone keen to start. Soon a queue formed for both options. Not a problem we had everyone served in about half an hour with lots of people coming back for seconds. The smell of the hog roast and the rosemary and garlic on the lamb was heavenly.
No sooner that we had served then it was time to clear the plates, and start the washing up at the rear of the van, well out of site.
We were soon finished and were being offered homemade desserts by the boss’s daughter, Claudia, who makes the same delicious nibbles every year. ‘It was then time to hit the road and nearly with a couple of prankster who took refuge in the back of the van. .
It was as good as ever and let’s hope we are needed again next year.
