Hod Roast in Richmond for The London Kitchen, Rugby sevens.

Well this is our fifth year for providing this hog roast in Richmond. The wonderful part is that the numbers have crept up from 1100 to now 2000 who would like Hog roast . This is out of the 4500 who have a multitude of choices.

Our journey starts the day before. We travelled down via the usual route through Chiswick, and Kew Gardens. Once we have reached the ground at Richmond we off load the vans and ensure that we are not short of anything. It’s then off to the hotel which this year was in Hounslow. I’m afraid it is nothing too posh. There really isn’t too much point due to the early start. We checked in and then it was a quick beer and somewhere to eat. Straight to bed since we had to be up at 4.00 am.

We arrived on site at 4.45 and quickly got all the machines on. Once all the pigs were roasting we moved onto cooking the joints that would supplement the whole pigs. It was soon time for a hearty breakfast which felt as if it was well earned.

The other team members arrived although they had missed our ‘full monty’. It seemed only fair since we had been working for a couple of hours. However we couldn’t be that harsh, we had saved some sausages and bacon.

It wasn’t long before we were busy traying up all the rolls and portioning all the various accompaniments. It all kept us a busy and we were soon slicing and carving. Before we knew it pigs were raised and everyone was busy.

This year it was a fairly spread out serve with just after 1.00 pm as the peak spot with 500 covers all at once. The wheels were well oiled and everything went out very smoothly.

The last hog roasts went out at just before 5.00 however we able to load the vans and get ready to travel home after a very long day.

The passing comment that we all like to hear was, ….’see you next year’… perfect. A nice end to the day.IMG_0618
