As always I look at google maps to check access and iron out any possible problems. Perhaps one of the worst is having an event at a village hall and on arrival you discover a height restriction bar. Invariably if you are the first on site there is no means of entry. This can mean a tiresome trek with all the kit, which can be a couple of hundred yards. Not much fun when you are trying to set up promptly.
Fortunately all was good. As always Hog Roast High Wycombe did a quick reconnoitre and introduced myself to the father of the bride who was doing the last minute adjustments. I guess he was hoping that I was on time so that he could pop home and prepare for proceedings.
It was wonderful set up, just in a quiet corner next to the kitchen and back door. There was plenty of time but it meant that I had to follow an orderly schedule to make sure all was ready together. There was a menu of barbecued chicken wings with blue cheese dressing, homemade Beef Burritos ( as well as veggie/vegan Burritos, of course) There were also tacos with guacamole, Hummus and Tatziki and not forgetting spicy potato wedges. Yum !! It all had to be laid out on a buffet table ready for guests to help themselves. All was going well, however there was a message that they were running early!! Great, I said to myself, however there was no rush and all was ready in time. It meant that I spent the next half an hour making Beef Burritos . Hog Roast High Wycombe managed to keep up and certainly meant that they were fresh. Although there only 70 guests they got through some 120 Burritos. It was fortunately accompanied by lots of compliments and we hadn’t even got to the Hog Roast.
Then came the speeches, which gave me a chance to clear down and regroup. The evening buffet was a Hog and salads, all freshly prepared and I guess the easier part. The mother of the bride and the bride kept thanking me and offering me cake and drinks. Unfortunately I was working !! and the cake – well I’m trying to cut back on carbs .
The load back up was all very quick and I was soon on my way and back home. The others had been and gone and undoubtedly watching the football or similar.
All that was left was to return the vans after a quick unload.
