The Kingham Club was another memorable Kingham hog roast party for over 500 guests. The fireworks seemed to go on forever. I guess the extent of the display reflected the success Club. It is not often that Golf Clubs spend millions on improvements to the Golf Course. The Hog Roast was perfectly cooked, ready on time so that all the families could eat before the display or afterwards if they wished. The weather held off long enough for everyone to enjoy the evening. We were the only ones who might have suffered getting slightly wet at the end. It was a busy night. There was also a party nearby for 150 guests at a local Rugby Club. Guests had travelled from far and wide. Guests were entertained by live music and a lively disco which went long into the night.
It was an unusual place for Kingham catering. It was probably one of the most interesting that I have done for a while.
I think it illustrates how compelling a pig roast is. It was probably one of the rare moments of cooking with such prominence, but not serving the public.
Numerous people stopped to chat and of course ask all the usual questions of …’how long has it taken to cook?’…, ..’where are we from?’…. and the admiration of the smells and site of a whole pig roasting.
The party was for a fiftieth birthday, although slightly confused with another party in the building. However it was not a problem with the very different ages between the guests that had been invited. It was a late serve time, but as always it was not a problem, since everyone was hungry and as always ample to go round with a whole leg to take home for the host..
The journey home was not too bad either with England marching on in the cricket. Poor Aussies. How the tables have turned.
