Althorp Hog Roast – Porsche Event

The journey to Althorp is about an hour’s drive from HQ. The hog roast team were very excited to be catering for such a prestigious event at a beautiful location. A venue that we have done many events for during the Grand Prix.

We were set up in good time, and were providing a Hog Roast with salads with a walking dessert. It looked spectacular and the comments from the staff at Althorp all commented how wonderful it looked and smelt. The hog roast event was for just short of 400 guest in the Stables at Althorp.

The stable block was built by Roger Morris in 1732 in an anglo-Palladian style. Certainly very grand! The House or I should say Estate is home to the Spencer family, and is more famously remembered as where Princess Diana lies. However the Porsche event was over two days and there had been much preparation. The set up for roasting the pigs was on the patio area that had a magnificent view of the west side of the house. We also had a view of the Porsche’s on display amongst a multitude if events and stalls all set up.

The service was from 6.00 pm and on this occasion took a little while to get started. I naturally thought that guests needed a little encouragement. It worked well and then there was a steady queue. Perhaps slightly unfortunate that guests had to double back on themselves, but this was the price to pay for enjoying the wonderful vista of the house in the background.

The Hog Roast Althorp event was over two days with an early start the next day. This time it was for the Porsche staff who had been working all round the various stalls. We were set up in a field with various other food stalls. This was a new experience, although we were largely catering for all pre-paid rather than the others who were having to sell their wares to the public. It was great fun with bacon rolls to start and then the Hog Roast for lunch. Amazingly the weather was hot and sunny all day, although there was a threat of thunderstorms. Fortunately they never happened.
