I had travelled this route earlier in the week, although the venue couldn’t have been more different. This time it was a Golf Course at Farnham Park in Stoke Poges. This was not far from Ditton Park. I had slight reservations about setting up a Hog Roast in Stoke Poges at a Golf Club, since I was guessing that it would be probably opposite the 18th. hole. Sure enough it was! The event was for charity – a lady called Leone Savva who had cancer of the oesophagus. The event was in support of the medical staff at Imperial College London and for the research that they were doing to find a cure. Jack Savva was a vibrant character and the husband of Leone. He was full of energy and directed his enthusiasm in raising money .
The Golf day started with signing on, bacon butties and getting ready for a shot gun start. This means that all the players (about 100) have to tee off at the same time. (some of the par 5’s have two teams). All seemed to be very lively, and made me wonder what was in the ‘goodie bags’! We set up as usual and managed probably record time. There was no need really, but it was probably the thought of relaxing with a cup of coffee and a bacon roll. We watched players putting out on the 18th green and they all commented on and checked out the cooking of the pig. We were lucky on this occasion to have the use of an adjacent room for the salads. It made life so much easier. Since everyone had started together it meant that everyone would in theory finish together. Sure enough it was pretty much spot on with most people in the bar at about 2.00pm. After a brief chat with Mark the manager this seemed to be ok since they would be spending money in the bar. Fortunately for us it also worked well and we were ready at 3.00 pm and everyone was through in about 20 minutes with some even having seconds. There was plenty for everyone and so all were more than happy. It was also very flattering that one of the organising staff said that ‘ it looks like we will be seeing you again ‘….
Great day and great fun, together with a goodie bag!! Another successful Hog Roast in Stoke Poges.
