I guess it must be because Easter is early that we are nicely busy for the beginning of April. We had a total of three events on. The larger was a wedding in Shalstone. The venue I had visited earlier in the year and the visit obviously gets rid of the unknowns. I find that there is always something that crops up in the pre-wedding chat and so it is important to have everything noted . The wedding was relatively simple and pleasant because of the timings with the ceremony in the same marquee. Fortunately on this occasion we had the ushers to help move chairs which were being used for both the service and the tables for the meal.
We left at about 8.00 am and were on site in good time. The guests were ambling about doing the finishing touches. Andy the groom showed us round and was very keen to ensure that hog roast Shalstone had everything that we needed as was the owner of the venue. All great help. Andy, the groom had been late to bed and exchanging tales of his youth the night before.
The parking was perfect alongside the catering marquee which in itself was huge. It all made it easier for the unload, set up and needless to say the whole operation.
We had to make sure all our lay-up was done well in advance due to the ceremony at 2.00 pm. It just made us get on with it. I got on with the canapes with the hog roast Shalstone chef got busy in the huge kitchen! The menu was canapes followed by hog roast and a barbecue. Everyone was so helpful and cheerful with absolutely no panic. The mother of the bride was happily tearful to which we offered tissues. It was all part of the ‘flavours’ of the wedding. The ceremony went to plan with quite a few jokes. This was followed by drinks outside along with the canapes. The weather was superb and just made it a nice day to be working.
Guests were soon seated and ready for the brief speeches (so we were told!). The various brothers said their bits, although there seemed to be a Michael MacIntyre who held court and had a wonderful repartee with all the guests. A lot were from the police force, North and South of the border. He was very funny, even though we willed for the end! All went well and we were soon clearing plates, washing up. There were intermittent thanks from what seemed like all the guests. There was even a man hug from Andy the groom before they departed.
