We have done various events at the barracks at Birdcage Walk. This was indeed a honour to be invited back for the fourth occasion. The Barracks are a rather daunting but peculiarly strange place. From the outside the front is similar to Buckingham Palace looking very grand , but the entrance at the rear in Petty France street is somewhat different. The security is manned by the Ghurkas, who are very firm and surprisingly pleasant. I gather they are not to be taken lightly.
One event was on the Friday, a smallish party for eighty guests. The theme was Bavarian and so there was copious amounts of beer, an Umpah Band + disco . Our part was to serve a Hog roast with spit roasted chicken and Bratwurst and German Sauces and mustards. All went well and guests at Westminster ate as if we were feeding the British Army- well we were !! They were all Guardsmen from various regiments.
The next day was the same venue but for another group of revellers. This time it was the musicians. I have to admit that I didn’t ask as to which regiment they belonged to , but I guess an expert can tell from the various pictures that we took. The display was impressive and fascinating to see from another angle. We were on the inside looking out at the public looking in.
The event was at lunch time with an early start, but on a Saturday the journey in was very straight forward without any hold ups at all. In fact the whole event was like a well oiled machine with guests on time, hungry and very easy to please. Nothing could be better.
Another great event in Westminster for the Hog Roast team, let’s hope we are invited back again.
