Of course the thing we want to talk about this week is the record breaking heatwave temperatures that swept across the UK. It’s all any of us having been talking about of late, both before the weekend, during it, and of course coming after it as it slowly cooled down through the week.
As an event caterer that typically works outdoors – especially in the summer – the Hog Roast Bourn team was of course very well aware of the heatwave. Such high heats have the potential to impact events and even our services, as some foods may run the risk of being spoiled in the heat. Hog Roast Bourn, however, always do our best to ensure safety remains at an absolute premium for our guests.
We took plenty of precautions going into our big event of the weekend in Bourn – the annual summer part at the Bourn Hall Clinic. A great event really made to feel quite summery given the weather – potentially too summery! The Hog Roast Bourn team were delighted to be given the call to come and offer our summer catering expertise to the day. As such, head chef Craig devised an excellent summer menu for the party, something that would offer cooling comfort given the heat, and plenty of comforting, summer tastes.
The answer to this, of course, was Hog Roast Bourn’s signature hog roast, hand pulled after an afternoon of cooking on our own-designed mobile hog roast machine, and served up for rolls and wraps – the perfect tonic to any record breaking hot day! Keeping the summery feel going, our additions of homemade sage and onion stuffing, tomato and mozzarella salad, green leaf salad, red cabbage slaw, and a mix of regular and sweet potato fries added a tonne of colour and freshness to guest’s plates.
At one point in the day the temperature reached a whopping 38°C – so it was certainly a hot one! Thankfully, our dining began in the evening, allowing the night air to begin to cool, turning it into a very pleasant summer evening where party proceedings could continue long into the warm night!
